Turkey’s longest river…

is the Kızılırmak with a length of 1,355 kilometers (842 miles). Aside from its impressive length, it has also a delta which is a bird sanctuary, welcoming migratory birds every winter.

Turkey’s biggest lake…

is Lake Van in the eastern Van and Bitlis provinces. It is a saline soda lake, receiving water from numerous small streams that descend from the surrounding mountains

Turkey’s highest mountain…

is Mount Ağrı (Ararat) at 5,137 meters (16,854 feet). The mountain is located in the eastern province of Iğdır and was once located by the sea.

Turkey’s biggest island…

is Gökçeada, which once was named Imbros. Located in the Aegean Sea where the Gulf of Saros and the Dardanelles Strait meet in Çanakkale province, Gökçeada has a population of 8,672, according to the 2007 census, which includes 1,871 people living in the villages on the island.

Turkey's most crowded city...

is obviously Istanbul. With a population of 15.52 million, it is sometimes mistaken for the capital of Turkey (which is actually Ankara) and stretches over two continents.

Turkey's least crowded city...

is Tunceli with a population of 88,000. It is located in the eastern Anatolian region. It might not be the most crowded but it is wealthy in history and natural beauty.

Turkey’s oldest archaeological find…

is Göbeklitepe. The outstanding 12,000-year-old Göbeklitepe complex, located 15 kilometers from Turkey’s southeastern city of Şanlıurfa, is the oldest temple site in human history. It is also one of the most important discoveries of Neolithic research.

Turkey’s deepest cave…

is the Insuyu cave in the southern city Burdur with a depth of 2,150 meters

Turkey's biggest palace...

is the Dolmabahçe Palace with an area of 45,000 m².  The palace is located in Istanbul’s Beşiktaş district and has 285 rooms, 46 halls, 6 Turkish baths and 68 toilets.

Turkey's oldest bridge...

is Taşköprü, which can be found in the southern Adana province, crossing over the Seyhan River. Historically known as Ponte Sarus, it is said to have been built in the first half of the second century AD and was key for the ancient trade routes in the region.

Turkey’s oldest tree…

can be found in Zonguldak. In 2016, the yew tree was discovered to be 4,112 years old, granting it the title of not only the oldest tree in Turkey and Europe but also the oldest yew tree in the world and one of the entire world’s five oldest living trees. Standing 25.5 meters in height and 7.7 meters in girth, the yew, or "porsuk" in Turkish, is located in the Gümeli Forest of the Alaplı district in Turkey’s Western Black Sea region. It has been declared a natural monument and is believed to be the only living entity remaining from the Bronze Age.

Turkey's oldest city...

is the southeastern city of Hakkari. Located at a junction with the Iraqi and Iranian borders, Hakkari is not the most popular destination but thanks to extreme sports lovers, the city has become a major hub for mountaineers and cave explorers.
